Playing with My Silhouette

For the last few days I have had this urge to learn how to make my own cutting files using the Silhouette Studio Software.  I can make basic shapes like squares, rectangles etc and this came in handy when I need 280 squares of card all cut to 4.5cm. But I wanted to do more.....  So I got the product key to upgrade to the Designer Edition, watched some videos and got to playing.

....and this is my first attempt! (well actually its my second if you include the file I did for Easter which I can now improve up).  The file cuts a full sized card, with the front half featuring a floral lace mat.  There are also some layers and Birthday Sentiments.  I know this card looks quite plain compared to my usual work, but I did not want to mislead by putting lots of embellishments on it.

So once I got the pattern done, I forwarded to my mum and asked for her take on the card. As you can see she has added brads, extra flowers and made the tags a little longer.

If you like this file then pop over to the Happy Crafter where it will be available for free for a short time and then at a small fee.

Till next time.

Sneek Peek

Today has been a rather productive day.  Last week I got a delivery of goodies including a new Zutter machine.  I have been playing with that and have a work in progress.  Also in my box of goodies was a complete set of Distress Markers.  I have got individual colours available for sale at The Happy Crafter and hope to have the full range of colours in coming months. Today I decided the Project of the Month would be a technique class (as the last few have been off-the-page projects) to show how I have used the fantastic markers.   Here is a sneak peek of the card I have created.  This will be posted to YouTube hopefully tomorrow so keep watch on the tab at the top of this page.

This is a very masculine, but the technique works well on feminine cards too.

Till next time

A little bit Slack!

Well it appears I was a little bit slack last month with the postings.  Part of the "joys" of living in the beautiful tropics of North Queensland, is that sometimes it gets so humid, its impossible to craft.  As you know, the most essential part of any papercrafts kit is paper.... and paper absorbs the moisture in humidity like you wouldn't believe.  I picked up a piece of 310gsm card which is usually nice and stiff and it drooped!!!!!  Here's a picture I took of the hills behind our house and you can see just how low the clouds got!

Well the great news is that oppressive humidity has lifted and all the paper has once again dried out. Today I have been working on a special request from a dear friend who needs a Baby card.  She requested an interactive card but did not know if it was a boy of a girl!  So out came the 100% recycled cardstock in French Vanilla, Butter Cream & Guacamole!  Soft Yellows and greens are great colours when you don't know if its a boy or girl!
The last card I made for my friend had a magic window slider so I wanted to make something a little different but still interactive.  Recently I stumbled across the fantastic Double slider card (which I hope to demonstrate in a video tutorial one day).   I know many people make the double slider as a card to give as it self, bit I love to attach to easel cards.  The easel card is such an easy way for the recipiant to display their card without it constantly blowing over.  They are so simpe to make and look impressive.
Take your card and fold to make the desired sized folded card. In this case I ended up with a card 12cmx16cm. Then score down the length of the card (16cm) at midway point (6cm). Cut another piece of card that measures the same as your card front (16cmx12cm) Decorate the panel in any way you wish and then attach to the bottom half of your folded card. (The half at the opening edge)  You then need to make stopper to hold your card up on its easel.  In this case, I have made some tiny diapers held together with mini safetly pins.
The digital stamp of the stock was purchased from Whimsy Stamps and is a Meljen's Design

I find making baby cards when you don't know if its a boy or a girl is the hardest of all!  Everything baby comes in Pink or Blue!  I hope this has given you some inspiration for your next Baby card.

I am now off to play with my new Zutter machine!
Till next time!
